Name: Roshanak Feroz
Meaning: roshanak - little light; feroz - lucky
Nicknames: Rosha, but if you -really- know her, then you'll call her by her full first name. She feels that her nickname is reserved for those people who don't want to be bothered with all of the syllables.
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Birthdate: January 29th. Aquarius sun, Pisces moon.
Room number: Emerald B-6
Year at the Academy: Second
School/Focus Track: Communications/Telecommunications & Photojournalism
Theatre tech, specifically set design for a few smaller shows that the drama club puts on. She's a bit of a drama junkie, and a decent actress. She enjoys videography, and doesn't go anywhere without her little videocam in case she sees something that might work in one of her multiple "Senshi Academy Music Videos." She loves reading fantasy novels, able to get caught up for hours in stories of princesses and sorcerors and far-away lands.
Aesthetics: Roshanak's got an eye for colors and lines, something that comes in handy with her drama club pasttimes. She's also pretty good at coming up with original outfits and matching colors/patterns/styles. If she wanted to take the time to learn how to sew, she could be a pretty decent costumer.
Thinking outside of the box: She's creative, she's original, and she's a dreamer. Put those together, and you've got a young woman who will propose the most outrageous solutions for any given problem. While her ideas might not always work, they can prove to be a catalyst within a group discussion that can bring about more tangible solutions.
Videography: Roshanak has an eye for video editing and setting footage to music. Her parents indulged her one possibly productive hobby with a small digital studio setup that included a camera, a computer with a fair amount of video software, and a dual digital tape deck. She's gotten rather good in the short time she's had her 'toys.'
Reading her novels (she'll stay up all night to finish a book if it intrigues her that much), sliding down bannisters, hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows, dressing up, light pink, wearing costumes, dancing, fluffy pillows and snuggly blankets, and spending time doing set construction.
Having to stay up late to do homework, being bored, cold rainy days, people who can't seem to laugh, music you can't dance to, and being forced to stick to a schedule.
More than anything, Roshanak fears losing her independence and being stuck in some sort of routine for the rest of her life. The thought of joining the military like her parents scares her to no end, and she doesn't want to wind up like them, having to do the same set of tasks every day for the rest of her life.
To take advantage of this Senshi thing she's got and make life interesting for her, as well as for those with whom she comes in contact. She's not into planning much for the future; the only reason that she chose her focus track was because it afforded her the chance to be creative and learn more about photography as well as interact with lots of different people.
Roxana Feroz - mother: The daughter of a full Senshi and a well-to-do merchant, Roxana is the product of a great deal of training to keep her abilities under control. She grew up a bit spoiled but ingrained with the belief that those blessed with healing abilities should work to serve the greater good. Roxana adores her daughter and tends to spoil her just a bit, but she is a bit disappointed with the path of study that Roshanak has chosen. After the display at the hospital, she'd hoped that Roshanak would enter the medical program. Still, she's proud of her little girl, and tries to understand that not everyone needs to join the Lunar Military to be successful.
Tabor Feroz - father: The son of a military man, who was the son of a military man, the Feroz line goes back to a few decades after the Awakening. Tabor is a strict disciplinarian who has a reputation among his superiors as a 'by the rules' officer who is prompt and efficient. Needless to say, his daughter's behavior doesn't always sit well with him. He's content that she's shown an interest in his field of study, but he wishes that she would spend more time practicing her Senshi abilities and honing them. To have a Senshi in the Feroz line is an incredible honor, but Roshanak's adventures at the Academy sometimes make their way to the base. Upon hearing such stories, Tabor often finds himself rubbing his forehead, wondering how his daughter managed to maintain such good grades while being such a mediocre Senshi and such a social headache of a student.
Nora Sweeney: A second year student with a penchant for drama and the voice of an angel, Nora met Roshanak during a drama club meeting and the two became friends during set construction sessions their first year. A little less eccentric and extremely social, Nora is a 'girly-girl' whose crushes change every week and who almost always talks Roshanak into figuring out if a certain boy does or doesn't like her. She is the opposite of Roshanak when it comes to classes and being a Senshi; Nora could care less about school, but she's often the one to drag her friends to open sparring sessions to practice forms and attacks. Bubbly, talkative, and flirtatious, Nora flits from social clique to social clique, but never forgets about Roshanak. If nothing else, Nora is loyal to the end when it comes to her 'most bestest friend in the widest wide world.
Dobrogost Qian: A fourth year student who lives in the same building as she does, Dobrogost is one of the few boys that Roshanak didn't mind bothering for Nora. True, he'd given her that nasty look that he gave every girl, but still... it didn't bother her. She'd heard her father talk about his father, so she figured that he must be sort of important, somehow. Roshanak makes it a point to call him by his full middle name, says hello when she meets him in the hallways, and has often wondered if he'd consider trading fantasy novels since she caught him reading one between classes.
None. Of course, she'll have crushes, but they're more along the lines of, "Oh, he's cute. I wonder why his hair's so shiny?" It's a dreamy sort of idolizing, and it doesn't usually last. Roshanak's more likely to fall head over heels for a character in a play or in a book than a real person.
Unconventional in thought and practice, Roshanak is one of those darling eccentrics who believes that anything is possible. Upon meeting her, one would encounter a dreamy little pixie who spends half her days with her head in the clouds. Constantly coming up with new and outrageous ideas, Roshanak isn't the least bit concerned with what other people think of her ideas. She approaches challenges with a fresh outlook, unafraid to walk down the path less traveled or attempt a resolution that others had considered too wild or too radical. A leader with a "nothing's truly impossible" attitude, she seeks to engage friends and acquaintances to move towards a common goal. The more people she gets on her sparkly bandwagon, the more likely Roshanak will carry through with her plans and ideas. It's one thing for her to let a project fall to the wayside because she loses interest; in contrast, she's not the type to let her friends or acquaintances down. She holds herself to a near-perfectionist standard, often losing herself in the details and requiring someone else to pull her back to see the overall big picture.
Roshanak is one of those sweet and charming young women who loves pushing people's buttons. She loves picking at an argument, playing the devil's advocate just to see how far she can push those in authority. Roshanak thrives on using her far-out sense of logic to explain her frequent rule bending and odd interpretations of homework assignments. Why did she slide down the banister? Well, the stairs were crowded and she didn't want to disappoint her favorite teacher by being late to class. What makes Roshanak even sweeter in the eyes of many people is that she's absolutely sincere in those sorts of situations. She genuinely loves people and holds onto this optimistic and incredibly accepting attitude.
Despite a dislike of routine, Roshanak loves school and learning. She's a quick study, picking up new ideas and concepts in a relatively short amount of time. Part of this can be attributed to her imagination; Roshanak has an amazing ability to grasp even the most intangible concepts. She's just so... trusting. She's the type to go with her instincts and hunches, sometimes overlooking the facts in front of her just because they don't 'feel' right.
Roshanak's got her circles of friends and acquaintances (being a fixture in the Academy theatre scene doesn't hurt) but she's not always the one who'll immediately connect to a person. She's got that dreamy and slightly wacky outer shell that most people stop at, assuming that the girl's sweet but just not all there, for whatever reason. Beneath that layer of craziness, Roshanak is a gentle and perceptive person who often finds a better connection with ideas and projects rather than people. That's not to say that she lacks social skills, but she's sometimes so wrapped up in her own thoughts and 'what-ifs' that she forgets about other people.
Overall, Roshanak is a charming and original teenager who loves toying with possibilities. She is an avid learner, jumping from one topic to another as things interest her. She has her hobbies and friends, but she values her alone time as it allows her mind to wander. She is a rule-bender, but she can readily offer an argument as to why her activities are completely legitimate. Most importantly, Roshanak is independent, unwilling to be tied down to one concept or stereotype.
Roshanak has a somewhat exotic appearance that could be likened to a little Arabic doll, with her mahogany skin and dark curly black-brown hair. Eyes are a deep golden shade, thick lashes and elegant eyebrows lending shape to her face. Her face is rounded, soft cheeks adding to an impish rosy-lipped smile. Her frame is on the smaller side, barely 5'2", wiry yet curvy enough in the chest and hips to appear fairly. feminine. Small hands and feet add to the pixie-like image, and she doesn't so much walk as flutter or skip. Steps are light, motions are animated, and her expression is almost always caught between dreamy wonder and quiet mischief.
Roshanak wears her hair loose, the wily coarse waves that hang just past her shoulders usually kept back with a simple white headband. Bangs that she is constantly trying to grow out often escape the headband, curling out in corkscrews about her face. When reading or attempting to do homework, Roshanak usually curls these pieces around her index finger. She may do such things while in class, such an action a sure sign that her mind is anywhere but in the classroom.
Roshanak's voice is a perky mezzo, vibrant and full. She's a compentent singer, able to hold her own in the drama club performances. Her clothing is very feminine and rather stylish, her wardrobe full of pinks, whites, lavenders, blues, and other girly pastels. She's a fan of sweater-sets, skirts, 'cute' blouses, and stylish shoes. She'll wear more casual clothes for sparring practice and ratty sweats for set construction, but still, she manages to look relatively put-together no matter what she throws on.
The only daughter of Roxana and Tabor Feroz, Roshanak might have been expected to follow in her parents' footsteps by joining the Lunar military. With her mother a gifted medic and her father a recognized communications officer, the little girl spent much of her time on the military base among other runny-nosed military brats. At the daycare center, Roshanak had a reputation for being only slightly disobedient as a toddler. She would climb the shelves, she would throw things around, she would tie her naptime blanket around her neck as a cape and jump off chairs to pretend to fly, and she would basically do all of these things with such a pleasant giggle that the caretakers couldn't help but laugh as they admonished her. As she grew older, it became clear that the little girl was intelligent and quick-witted, able to argue like an adult when she wanted something. Her logic, while it incorporated some rather outrageous assumptions and ideas, could be followed if one made the little girl slow down and explain things. This charmingly independent streak continued into her grammar school years, causing a fair amount of concern to both mother and father. Rather than continue to leave her in the care of tutors, Tabor felt that it would be best for Roshanak to follow her mother's path as a medic. So, with little consultation between daughter and parents, Roshanak found herself volunteered at the medical complex, working as an assistant in the children's ward. She would read stories, change sheets and pajamas, and attempt to entertain sick children in between doctors' visits. There was just enough routine in such a lifestyle to keep her parents happy, and just enough variety for Roshanak to believe that such things weren't all that bad.
Roshanak's abilities manifested themselves the summer after her twelfth birthday, during an exceedingly trying day at the hospital. A older boy, not much older than Roshanak, had been brought to the ward after suffering a backlash episode. Left with two very upset little sisters who refused to leave their brother's side, the nurses and doctors in the ward gave Roshanak the job of taking care of the little girls as well as their brother. Left with two crying children and a semi-comatose patient, the young teenager grew frustrated as the day went on. Parents refused to come into the room, the girls refused to leave, and Roshanak soon ran out of fairy tales to tell and songs to sing. As the sisters finally wore themselves out and fell asleep in a chair next to the bed, Roshanak breathed a sigh of relief and began talking softly to the young man. Nothing much, just quiet chatter about how his sisters missed him and how he'd probably be so much better at making them feel better and how his parents probably missed him as well. As she talked, she patted his hand, not realizing that she was leaving little deposits of yellow-pink dust on his skin. A few more minutes of such one-sided conversation, and Roshanak nearly fell over in happiness and shock when her patient sleepily asked her if he could have a drink of water.
Roshanak was diagnosed a Senshi, with her parents sending her off to the Academy in the space of a year. Despite displaying healing abilities, Roshanak had neither the drive nor interest in medicine to follow in her mother's footsteps. Communications held more of an interest, so Roshanak blithely declared a Focus Track in Telecommunications and Photojournalism, the latter solely because it coincided with her hobbies. Development of her Senshi abilities has happened slowly, her Pure Heart Healing power the only ability she's managed to summon and control. She could do better if she worked harder, but Roshanak isn't really one for practice and training. With the discovery of drama club and the numerous friends she's got, she doesn't always find time to practice "silly things like Senshi powers." Such lack of discipline has earned her a few scoldings, but her academic performance (albeit unorthodox) keeps her from earning the title of completely lazy and unwilling to become a Senshi.
Name: Sailor Kirin
Symbol: A curved "U" containing three horizonal wavy lines, the symbol "purificatio"
Appearance (fuku): Kirin's fuku consists of a fitted top in white clingy fabric, complimented by billowing pants that are tight about her ankles. The top is akin to that of the classic Senshi bodysuit, the sailor collar done in ice pink with a dual white stripe. A polished gold circle engraved with her symbol rests at the bottom of the collar, a burst of pale yellow ribbon ruffling the outside. Sleeves are full and slightly puffy, fitted at the wrist and secured with two gold buttons. Hands have no gloves; instead, each finger and thumb is adorned with a thin gold band between the fingernail and first knuckle. Her henshin ring remains on her right middle finger beneath the gold band. A wide piece of fabric, similar in wrap to that of a kimono, goes about her waist and extends from just above her navel to just below her hip bone. This fabric is the same ice pink as her collar, and is tied in the back with a pale yellow ribbon. The ends of the ribbon trail another foot behind Kirin in the back. Legs of the pants are the same style as the sleeves, allowing for freedom of movement. Cuffs are secured at the ankles with two gold buttons. Shoes are hard-soled pink slippers without any additional adornment, save for a wide strap over the middle of the top of the foot. A gold circlet without any stone is on her head, and simple gold hoop earrings hang from each ear. Her hair and skin are dusted with an ivory-gold powder, giving her a sort of unearthly glow.
Henshin phrase: For virtue and healing, I ask to become... Kirin!
Henshin item: A carved ivory ring with the head of a unicorn at the top, the ivory containing swirls of soft yellows and pinks.
Henshin description: Roshanak slips her ring from the usual spot on her left index finger to her right middle, saying her henshin phrase as she does so. As she speaks the word "Kirin," an ivory-pink semblance of a unicorn's horn emerges from between her eyebrows, growing to a length of seven and a half inches as her entire body is engulfed in a an ivory light. Roshanak releases her ring and spreads her arms out, wrists at waist level and palms facing out to either side as she tucks her right foot behind her left and curtsies, head bowed. With that curtsy, the 'horn' atop her head begins to fall apart, sparkles in an array of ivory, ice pink, and pale yellow swirling about her body in soft circles as her clothing is replaced by her fuku. Once her fuku is complete, the dust reforms into a long staff in her right hand, the forward end coming to a ribbed point similar to the unicorn horn that formed at the beginning of her henshin. Fully transformed, Kirin stands and leans against her staff, left hand below the right, right foot still behind the left, lips in a serene smile.
Power base: Healing/Purfication
Weapons/items: Unicorn Staff, created upon henshin and available only when she is henshined. If she dehenshins, the staff (no matter where it is) will return to pocketspace. It is inherently tied to Kirin, and will cease to exist if Roshanak is not in Senshi form. The staff is six feet long, with the top four inches a ribbed point similar to a unicorn's horn. A band of twisted gold cord separates the horn from the rest of the staff. The main part of the staff is smooth, its appearance likened to ivory with milky swirls of ice pink and pale yellow throughout. It is surprisingly lightweight, but henshin does not grant Kirin the expertise required to wield such a weapon in battle.
Pure Heart Healing
How is it summoned: Kirin touches the horn of her Unicorn Staff to the target's body and utters the words, "Kirin Pure Heart Healing." A gauzy mist flows from the point of the staff and pools about the site of injury on the target.
Effect upon target: A healing spell, it allows for the mending of minor cuts and bruises, small cases of frostbite or first degree burns, and provides some comfort to strained or sprained muscles.
Duration of spell: The longer Kirin allows the mist to pool, the more effective the healing. A few seconds might heal a scraped knee, but a minute could fixed a moderately sprained ankle. Maximum time is seventy-five second.
Limitations: When Kirin uses this ability, she experiences a 'ghost pain' of the injury she is trying to heal. Her fingers might feel tingly if she's healing a burn, or she could feel a painful twist in her shoulder if she's working on a dislocation. Little things like cuts or small bruises don't ghost; the best equation is that Kirin will experience a fifth of the pain that the initial target receives. She can only perform a total of one hour of healing in a twelve hour period, but she is able to heal people even if she herself isn't at one hundred percent.
Unfortunately, this is the only spell that Kirin has been able to master. She is learning how to use a staff in combat and sparring scenarios, but she has not been able to accomplish the second of her beginning powers.
Yes, I'll describe it here... just for consistency's sake.
Soul Cleansing
How it is summoned: Kirin beats the ground with her staff, calling out the phrase, "Kirin Soul Cleansing!" A ring of gold and pink mist ripples outwards for a distance (radius) of fifteen feet, the pulse allowing Kirin to purge anyone within that radius of low-level spells or influences.
Effect on target: A purification spell, this allows Kirin to break any low-level purely magical spells inflicted upon her teammates. She cannot break spells cast upon herself, unfortunately.
Duration: The ring ripples out at a rate of five feet per second, hitting all possible targets in the space of three seconds before it dissipates.
Limitations: It can be blocked by physical barriers, and it can be combatted by higher-level magical spells. Soul Cleansing is only effective against purely magical spells, and is only truly effective against low-level psionic spells. Kirin is only able to use this ability once every three hours, and using it twice in the space of five hours will cause her to dehenshin and possibly become unconscious, depending upon her mental and physical state.
Weapons Ability: Unicorn Staff/other staff weapons
Kirin's staff prowess is mediocre, as she isn't one for practice. Still, given time, she will be able to develop a certain degree of skill with such a weapon. As it is only her second year, she is far more adept at blocking than attacking, and knows that often times, her blocking is the only thing that gets her out of sparring matches relatively unhurt.
